CEO Clarifies New Embed Policy: Fostering Meaningful Engagement

In a recent conversation with the Twitch community, the CEO of the popular streaming platform, Twitch, was asked to provide more details about the new embed policy. The user inquired about how this policy might impact their use of the feature on a website they own, particularly in the context of their focus on a specific game they also stream. They expressed gratitude for the feature but sought clarity regarding the platform's goals moving forward.

twitch embed code

The CEO's response offered valuable insights into the intent behind the new embed policy: "the focus is, if you have a lot of people coming to the website and part of what they're doing is engaging with the content on the website which you are embedding and that is a meaningful portion of the website, then that is a appropriate use of embedding, what we are trying to capture is where people are coming to the website for purpose x and there's a small autoplay with no audio on the side they hardly even see, because the reason they are there is just to interact and there is large amount of people doing it, if you are one of the people, we are going to contact any of the sites we are doing this with, so you will be contacted if this is a issue, if your a small site then I suspect it wont be a problem" -source

This statement underscores the importance of user engagement and meaningful integration of Twitch content on external websites. It signifies that Twitch is keen on maintaining a balance between the use of the embed feature and the quality of engagement it fosters.

For years, Twitch's embed feature has proven to be a valuable tool for streamers and website owners. It enables the seamless integration of live or recorded Twitch content into their websites, enhancing user experience and promoting interaction between the streamer's community and website visitors. This is particularly relevant for streamers who have a dedicated focus on a specific game or theme.

The CEO's explanation goes further by highlighting the platform's concern regarding autoplay videos with no audio that may distract users from their primary reason for visiting a website. Twitch aims to address cases where these autoplay videos are prevalent, potentially overwhelming the user experience. The CEO mentioned that Twitch would contact websites engaging in such practices, indicating their intention to maintain the quality of user interaction.

However, the response also provides reassurance to smaller website owners, suggesting that the new embed policy might not be an issue for them. This suggests that Twitch's focus is primarily on addressing instances where the user experience is significantly affected, particularly on larger websites.

In conclusion, the CEO's response highlights Twitch's commitment to improving the quality of user engagement, especially when it comes to embedding Twitch content on external websites. The platform seeks to ensure that the integration of Twitch content adds value to the user experience rather than detracts from it. For website owners who genuinely enhance their visitors' experience by embedding Twitch content, the new embed policy is not likely to be a concern. It demonstrates Twitch's dedication to maintaining a positive and engaging environment for its users while acknowledging the diverse ways the platform is utilized.

How legal viewbots thrive is a false narrative

The Truth About Twitch Embeds: Real Views or "Legal Viewbots"?

There's a persistent myth floating around the streaming world that has creators, analysts, and even some big-name YouTubers fired up. They point at certain channels and declare their viewer counts inflated by what they call "legit viewbots" or "legal viewbots." The culprit? Simple embeds of Twitch streams on third-party websites. But is that really the same as botting? Spoiler: it's not. And the double standard here is glaring.

Watch any of those viral breakdown videos and you'll see the same setup: They pull up the World of Warcraft Twitch directory, zoom in on Asmongold's massive numbers, and contrast them with smaller or mid-tier channels like Method. The claim? One is pure organic hype, the other is propped up by sneaky embeds. It's a neat narrative, but it's also flat-out wrong. Blanket judgments like this ignore how Twitch actually works and who benefits most from the platform's built-in visibility tools.

If we're being honest and following the logic these critics lay out, then a whole bunch of completely normal Twitch features suddenly become "viewbots" too. Think about it:

  • The front page carousel that pushes top streams to millions of eyes
  • Auto-hosting and hosting features that funnel viewers automatically
  • Raids that send entire audiences from one channel to another
  • Drops campaigns that reward viewers for tuning in

These mechanisms have helped build some of the biggest careers on the platform. The biggest channels didn't get there in a vacuum, and pretending otherwise misses the bigger picture.

Take Asmongold as a perfect case study. Back in one of his record-breaking streams a few years ago, he shared his dashboard stats publicly. The numbers were eye-opening.

Look closely at the stats breakdown and you'll see a massive chunk of views coming from "external" sources. According to the very logic some critics use, that should count as "legit viewbots." Yet no one bats an eye when it happens for the platform's biggest names. The truth is, external views have always been part of Twitch's ecosystem, and they still are in 2026.

Viewbots vs. Embeds: Two Completely Different Things

Here's where the conversation always goes off the rails. Critics love to mash these two concepts together, but they're apples and oranges.

A viewbot is automated software that opens fake connections to a stream. It tricks Twitch's player into thinking a real person is watching, pumping up the numbers without any actual human behind it.

An embed, on the other hand, is a real Twitch video player placed on a legitimate webpage. A real visitor lands on that site, sees the stream playing, and consumes the content just like they would on Twitch itself. No automation. Just genuine eyeballs.

Yet somehow these get lumped together in the same breath. It's misleading at best and harmful at worst, because it discourages the exact kind of cross-promotion that could help smaller creators grow.

Chat Activity, Followers, and the Real Story Behind the Numbers

Another favorite talking point: "Their chat is dead, so the viewers must be fake." This one falls apart fast when you understand how embeds actually work.

When a site embeds a Twitch player for promotional or content purposes, they almost never include the chat window. Why? Because the goal is usually clean video playback, not full social interaction. Visitors are still watching the stream in real time. They're just doing it without typing in chat.

That doesn't make the view any less valid. It just means the metrics look different. Content is still being consumed, and that's what matters for building an audience over time.

What Twitch Actually Says About Embeds in 2026

Twitch has clear, official rules around embedding their player, and they've held steady even as the platform evolves. Here's the current reality straight from their developer documentation:

Key requirements that still apply today:

  • The embedded player must be at least 400x300 pixels — no tiny 1x1 hidden frames allowed.
  • Embeds must use approved player elements and can't be obscured by other page content.
  • Domains need proper SSL certificates and the required "parent" parameter for verification.
  • You can't simply buy or sell embed placements on unrelated high-traffic sites unless you own and operate them. Twitch can (and does) revoke access for non-compliant use.

These rules exist to keep things fair and prevent abuse. But they also leave plenty of room for legitimate growth. A gaming blog, news site, or community forum can embed a stream and drive real, engaged viewers back to Twitch. It's the same model YouTube has used for years with massive success.

Why Twitch Needs More Smart Embeds, Not Fewer

Here's the part the critics miss: Twitch's growth depends on creators and partners building content around streams, not just inside them. Billions of web pages embed YouTube videos and send traffic right back to the platform. Twitch could use more of that same energy.

Quality embeds on relevant sites act like digital billboards. They expose streams to new audiences who might never browse the Twitch directory. They create discovery loops that benefit everyone from huge channels like Asmongold down to up-and-coming creators who finally get their shot.

Of course, there's a line. Hidden autoplay embeds on spammy pages or coordinated campaigns designed purely to game the algorithm cross into questionable territory. But painting all third-party embeds with the same brush ignores the real value they bring.

If you're a streamer wondering how to grow ethically in 2026, focus on creating content worth embedding. Partner with sites that align with your niche. Encourage fans to share your stream responsibly. And remember that sustainable growth still comes from authentic connection, not shortcuts.

The next time you hear someone dismiss a channel's numbers because of embeds, ask yourself: Are they really complaining about fake views, or are they just uncomfortable with how the platform actually levels the playing field? Real views from real people watching real content will always beat bots. And smart embeds help make more of those moments possible.

Embedding gone wrong, watch out for this!

How a 3rd party website is using the Twitch embed player in a very wrong way. Going to showcase what you should look for if you ever notice any external source popping up in your analytics section on twitch.

You can see if any 3rd party websites are embedding your twitch stream on either the channel analytics page or the stream summary section. Basically, go to your Dashboard > Insights > Click on either Channel Analytics or Stream Summary.  Both have a section called "Where did my views come from?" which then has a link to "View details", make sure to click on that to see the data.

If all goes well you will get a page that has the following type of section:

views from outside twitch
"Views from Outside Twitch" lists domain urls that have a Twitch embed player showing your stream. If you see yourself receiving a massive amount of views from this section its probably worth some time to investigate the sites to see how they are using the Twitch embed code.

Here is something I recently noticed that was happening in the "New World" game directory from a 3rd party website.

2 Embeds, one hidden, one visible

This screenshot has been censored so the 3rd party website and the embedded Twitch streamer isn't viewable.

If you go to this website right off the bat you will think nothing sketchy is occurring.   Its a guide for a mmorpg and under the main content is a Twitch embed player that is set to Autoplay=False which means its not auto playing the live stream as you enter the page.

But this same webpage if you press F12 (which loads up DevTools on chrome) shows a different story.

I have highlighted 2 twitch embeds on the screenshot.

The red highlight is a hidden iframe with a twitch embed everything code that is set to autoplay=true.

The blue highlight is the visible iframe with a normal just twitch video player embed that is set to autoplay=false.

Other notes, this website has some extra sketchy stuff with refreshing the ads and also the red highlight hidden iframe.  So every couple of second the Twitch embed everything iframe is being reloaded in the background hidden from the users who are consuming the content on this page.

A hidden iframe with a Twitch player embed is against the Twitch developer service agreement.

See the terms here: https://www.twitch.tv/p/en/legal/developer-agreement/

If you notice this happening to your stream channel via some 3rd party website, report it to Twitch.

So you have to ask yourself why is this 3rd party doing this?

This 3rd party appears to be using this tactic to advertise and possibly gain influence with streamers who are invested in New World.

The 3rd party has a new world website that the streamers are using on their channel.

So they pick the channels that are showing off their New World site, embed it so that streamer is higher on the Twitch New World directory which then may lead to more people seeing their website which in terms generators more web traffic for them.

Twitch Developer Agreement - "You may not create embeddable experiences in exchange for any compensation (monetary or non-monetary, directly or indirectly) from a content provider on a site or service that the content provider does not own or operate."

If the streamer checks to see whats going on via their "Views from Outside source", and goes to the other non new world website that's promoting their channel, at first glance it will be the visible twitch player embed that is paused. These streamers most likely have no idea of the hidden iframe, some of them probably don't even know they are being embedded.

Additional note on this case.

  • The Twitch Embed Everything code, why do they use that in the hidden iframe? Well here is a super secret tip, because it effects Twitch algorithm for "recommended channels" vs just having a Twitch Video player.

Getting on the Twitch Frontpage can yield 200k to 500k+ views depending on the time slot!

So recently I was streaming a game that I use to play many years ago called Elite Dangerous. I was curious on how this community was doing on Twitch since its recent big release of a expansion called Odyssey. Viewer ship levels appeared to spike in various time frames so I wanted to see what was causing the big abnormal viewership levels.

Lucky for me the channels that had the big viewer numbers listed that they were being featured on the "Twitch Front page".

Here is a look at the video tab for Elite Dangerous, which gives a quick view of total views from past streaming sessions.

Elite Dangerous directory videos on Twitch
As you can see in the screenshot, both channels stream session was around the same time frame of around six to seven hours and each of the channels shows total views at around 400k.

Here are some aftermath stats on additional streaming sessions for these two channels with out the front page promotion on twitch.

Channel one streaming sessions stats

Channel two streaming sessions stats
The first channel appears to have been able to capitalize on the front page promotion which shows in the stats and the second streamer due to not streaming everyday went back to their normal levels. So what exactly does that say? If you get a front page Twitch promotion, make sure to continue to stream the following days in order to maximize the potential for new viewer retention.

One additional screenshot of a channel that received frontpage promtion but wasn't in the Elite Dangerous category.
Misc channel stats from frontpage

Just wanted to post another to show it doesnt matter the context or the game, its the placement and time frame that yields the views.  You can also see examples of being in the frontpage and not yielding much of anything due to being in certain time slots or behind others in the carousal. Timing makes a huge difference in any adverting promotion.

So I ask myself on how do you get to be on the Twitch front page carousal? After a bit of investigation I found the following steps that some have taken to get their stream in a front page time slot on twitch.

  • For special events of charity related content, you can send a email and see if they can schedule a time slot on the front page.
    • Email: charity@twitch.tv
  • Also some charities that have worked with Twitch before like St Jude have a sign up section to which may feature you during their special charity events.

Other then that it appears the front page embed is curated by a special group at Twitch or sold as some advertising package.

Buying reddit ads to promote streamers

Twitch buys reddit ads promoting streamers

So while visiting reddit this morning, I have seen a promoted thread by 'twitch' which says the following:

"I'm Nick Eh 30, a Canadian-born professional Fortnite streamer & creator. I'll be doing an AMA over in r/FortNiteBR at 1:30pm EST on 11/14. Get your questions ready, please and thank you!"

If you click on the link, it sends you to this URL:

https://www.twitch.tv/?rdt_cid=2754764246642879261

Which is odd because it doesn't send you to the subreddit nor to the Nick Eh 30 twitch page. I don't think I have seen any reddit ads similar to this before done by 'twitch'.  This maybe a new campaign push for Twitch using reddit ads to bring in more visitors over to the twitch platform. I will post up any other new twitch ads if I come across them on reddit.  If you happen to see anything unique in this front, please fill free to comment below. I think this is really interesting that twitch is pushing this way for advertising.

Another Ad from 'twitch" but its 22 days old can also be viewed in different subreddits.

Both Ads focus on the fortnite game and fortnite streamers. This ad was a video, didn't appear to have any upvotes and no comments.

The URL sends you to the Twitch but also has tons of extra parameters.

https://www.twitch.tv/?%243p=a_reddit&_branch_match_id=723473051234974098&ttid%3Deab80f788b=&utm_campaign=Mediahub_REDDIT_Invite_RotationalMedia_Tracker&utm_medium=paid%20advertising&utm_source=Reddit&~campaign_id=762653270706564461&~creative_id=765558173245671464

What is interesting here is the "Mediahub" parameter. Mediahub is a AD buying and planning agency. It appears twitch is using this company to advertise the platform across different websites and social media. The streaming platform war is starting to heat up and 2020 is going to be a very deciding year for all the platforms in this space.

11/22/2019 - Update on this post, another Twitch Reddit ad that is embedding the live stream of a certain streamer.

This is a really interesting ad because its doing a embed and not a image or video.  The streamer's live view count showed over 74,000+ at certain times. If they continue this embed ad and consistently use the "Lirik" channel as the embed, expect this channel views to compound higher.

Checking 3rd party stats, the "Lirik" channel generally has 100k to 180k video views. During this reddit ad embed, the video views has increased to 1.3 million views and followers for that day also tripled.

More Twitch Streamers have autoplaying embed ads on reddit, check out the following screenshots:

CohhCarnage

I didn't manage to get the screenshot during its live session, but this is also interesting to note here.  The ads are hardcoded with the streamer link, its not dynamic switching to other live streamers.

Nickmercs

DrLupo

Annemunition

Nickeh30

Jericho

There was also a ad for "Timthetatman" but I didn't manage capture that screenshot. This is pretty interesting list of streamers to pick from out of the platform. Tim's stream is marked as mature, so when that Ad with the autoplaying embed shows up, its a black screen pop up that people need to click in order for the stream to start up.

Twitch is spending alot of money on these reddit ads, and its a mix of general twitch ads and these focused autoplaying embeds for a handful of streamers.

------------

Update to this posting 11/26/2020

Just noticed another streaming ad on reddit but this time it was FB Gaming advertising.  Here is a screenshot of the ad post on reddit.

When external Influencers start to censor!

How a powerful external influencer starts to censor?
As reported a couple months ago on this blog, one of the biggest external influencers which is OWNED BY TWITCH has been promoting twitch streams on their wiki network. The more popular a wiki is on their network, the more traffic and embedded viewership it generates for Twitch streamers.

Some of the most popular Wiki's on that network include but are not limited to the following;
  • Minecraft
  • Terraria
  • Ark
The way they pick which streamer to promote depends on placement on the game directory. For instance, on the Terraria wiki, whatever stream is in the top spot (of the terraria directory on twitch) will get most of the traffic that is generated from this 3rd party embed on the Terraria wiki.

Now this sounds like great for getting additional exposure for your stream right? Yup it is and I wrote about that here - Free Channel Traffic / Free Views

And here is how the censorship starts due to complaints from streamers vs streamers.

My channel broadcasts 24/7 using the rerun feature that is provided by Twitch. I like to play sandbox games on my stream and sometimes do play through runs of games. I broadcasting each day for around 5 to 8 hours then run reruns until I stream again the next day. A month ago, I was streaming Terraria which is one of the games that is being VERY LARGELY influenced by this 3rd party. A majority of the streamers who regularly stream that game do not have the reach in views that my channel generates daily. So what happen was as soon as I took the top spot in the directory, a huge chuck of the 3rd party embedding traffic was being sent to my channel which made it very difficult for other channels to overtake the top slot on the directory. The "free channel traffic" was gone for them and they didnt like it at all.

Without the 3rd party embedding support for Terraria, its overall viewership is alot lower. Estimated additional concurrent viewers from 3rd party is 400 - 1500+ depending on time of day. Many people who stream this game only do it because of that additional embedding traffic, some use it to launchpad into other games. So once that was gone, they started to campaign against my channel. One of them talked negativity about my channel on their stream, which lead to trolling in my chat from their viewbase.

At some point they contacted the 3rd party to complain about my channel. The 3rd party agreed with the complaints and censored my channel from being listed + promoted on their wiki.

I messaged the 3rd party myself to see exactly what the reason was for not being listed anymore.

Here was the responses:
  • That channel was banned from our wiki after it was brought to our attention that they were exploiting the system, as documented in a blog.
    • So I guess they didnt like how I told people about how they are influencing/sending tons of traffic to certain games on twitch.... Is this suppose to be TOP SECRET? Who knows ...I replied and asked for more clarification.
  • The 24/7 streaming is the issue. Once you've grabbed the unit, you don't give it up because you fill up reruns. The point of the embedded unit is to promote LIVE content, not reruns.
    • They made up a rule that no one knows about, its not listed anywhere, how is anyone suppose to know? I replied, since doing reRuns until the next time I stream was the issue, I said I can stop doing that and asked to be unbanned.
  • You will not be unbanned. The embed is for promoting the games and platform, not for streamers to game for revenue.
    • This is a interesting reply, note the "Streamers to game for revenue". I didnt know streaming on twitch was a hobby, this person's mindset is very poor.
So they censored my channel, what happened then?

This person "HLAquarius" was monitoring the situation and ran to whisper me, but then for some odd reason they delete their username a couple days later? Hmm?

What makes this censorship stupid is how the Twitch API gives details if channels are in ReRun mode or Live, if the 3rd party doesn't want to promote or list a streamer in rerun mode, they can easily code it to not do that instead of censoring due to complaints from streamers.

And now I recently started to stream No Man's Sky again, and guess what happened? Another complaint and tada censored on another wiki from this Twitch owned 3rd party.

Let me finish up with some words of advice, if you are a streamer do not become depended on any 3rd party traffic or embedding, one day it may help get more exposure and the next day it maybe gone. Build your own content, wikis, do your own embedding and promotions - be in control!

Powerful Embedding Promotion

How embedding can be used to promote big events for your Twitch channel.

This past weekend Twitch had a major Overwatch League event and I noticed some of the various ways they used embedding advertising to promote the channel. For those of you who are not familiar with what embedding means its basically taking the channel video stream player and showing it externally outside of Twitch. A good example of embedding can be seen here on this blog, on the sidebar I embed my Twitch channel in the advertising section. You can also include chat as its own embed if you wanted to show that off.

So lets start with reddit, on numerous subreddits during the event they had a advertisement going which showed the stream as a embed. Here is a screenshot:

overwatchleague stream on reddit
This would show up as a reddit promoted post and as users went to the subreddits that had this advert going, they would be able to watch the stream inside of reddit.

Next up and most likely one of the best embedding options Twitch has in their portfolio is gamepedia. Here is a screenshot of the OverwatchLeague channel being embedding across the majority of the gamepedia wiki network.

overwatchleague stream on gamepedia
Even thou the event is over with that embed is still occurring which is extremely helpful when looking at how much channel views generation its generally doing. Lets take a quick look at some basic stats for this channel.

OverwatchLeague Stats, Followers, Views
The event took place on the 27th and 28th of July, on the screenshot I've added 2 black dots. Now look at what happened on Sunday, over 2 million views on a offline stream. And continued on to Monday another 1.2 million views mostly generated by Twitch's embedding of the channel on gamepedia. How interesting to see a big bulk of the views coming from embedding promotions outside of Twitch.

One more place that I've seen in the past Twitch used to promote a special event was on imdb. IMDB is owned by Amazon, its a movie-actor type of a database lookup website. I forgot to check to see if they had any promotional embed for the Overwatchleague channel.  But here is how they used it during a Call of Duty Black Ops announcement event.

Call of Duty Black Ops IMDB Embed

This was on the frontpage, top fold of the layout showing the channel as a embed.

Most likely they did additional promotion on facebook, twitter and other places but I didn't dig that deep. On facebook they do not allow 3rd party embedding, but on Twitter you can embed your stream.

Overall this shows how powerful embedding advertisement can be to promote your channel on Twitch. Check out my "How to get twitch viewers", guide for ways you can start taking advantage of embedding and other various tips that I have learned over the years of streaming.

Any questions or comments fill free to post below in the comment section.

Update 8/15/2018 - Noticed another embedded stream on r/twitch promoting Call of Duty, unlucky for them having a MATURE Filter enabled prevented the stream from autoplaying.

Embedding clips on twitter

Guide on how to embed twitch clips onto twitter.

So you want to put a twitch clip on twitter as a embed? Here is a simple way to do it by downloading the clip and reuploading it into twitter.  This method can also apply for facebook pages. So if you want to upload clips onto both twitter and facebook, substitute step 3 with posting on facebook, its very similar.

Step 1.

Go to the clips section on the dashboard and select clips of my channel.

Clips section on dashboard

Here is a URL shortcut ( https://dashboard.twitch.tv/u/STREAMNAME/content/clips/channel )  to this section, just make sure to insert your channel name in the STREAMNAME spot.

Step 2.

Click on the download button next to the clip you want to save. Make sure to save the video clip to a location you can easily find such as your desktop.

Clips download button

Step 3.

Now that you have your video clip downloaded, you can use it to upload into twitter, which will create it as a embed. Go to twitter, then to tweet creation window and click on 'Add photos or video' button, select the video clip file and upload it. Write out a tweet description with your hash tags and tweet it out.

twitter tweet window with video embed

Update - Twitch now has the correct twitter card information for clips, so it automatically embeds and links back to your twitch channel. You can use the clips URL and just put that into a tweet and it should work. So you will have to decide either on downloading and re-uploading or just using the share to tweet link.

I recommended to keep downloading your clips and then uploading them into twitter.  Using twitter's video system is better for growing and discovery opportunities on that platform. Social media platforms like facebook and twitter generally rank content better if its on their website, not embeds or links to other sites.

Advance Embed Code options for Twitch

Advance settings for embed code usage for Twitch streams.

Here are some additional options for use when adding embedding code from Twitch. This code includes many options that will be explained below.

custom html

Step 4

Enter a Title, I generally use My Channel or Advertisement, then below you add in the embed code from Twitch.

<script src="https://player.twitch.tv/js/embed/v1.js"></script>
<div id="daopastream"></div>
<script>
var options = {
width: 400,
height: 300,
channel: "daopa",
muted:true,
parent: ["twitch-tv-tips.blogspot.com"]
//video: "{v130023526}"
};
var player = new Twitch.Player("daopastream", options);

Advice - Take half the time you spend on reddit

Take half the time you spend on "REDDIT" and create a blog, write about games you play.

Some advice for game streamers since reddit is one of the most popular websites globally and most likely many streamers on Twitch check it out regularly for info. Take half the time you spend on reddit and put it towards creating a blog featuring content and your stream!

Do you have a Gmail / Google account? Perfect, use that to make a free blog on blogger.

Need ideas for content? Write about whatever games you are playing on your stream. Make guides, post up screenshots, post up your video highlights. Build content that people will search for via search engines.

Post your stream on the sidebar of the blog as a embed. If people check the blog, they will see your stream and may switch over to say hello! A good example of this can been seen right here on this blog. I write guides, opinion pieces for streaming and have my channel on the sidebar.

Quick guide steps on blog creation:
  1. Make a Google account or use a existing one.
  2. Go to blogger.com, click on Sign then, use your google account.
  3. May be prompted to create a Profile, this option is up to you, use either google+ or blogger profile
  4. Next, press Create a New Blog
  5. Enter Title and address, if you are primarily going to be writing about a certain game, you may want to use abbreviation or some keywords from the game title in the address and title.
  6. Select Theme then create blog.
That is basically it, very easy to get started with a new blog. Another tip is to make sure the new blog is listed in the webmaster tools for google, bing and other search engines.

Webmaster Tool links:

> Google - https://www.google.com/webmasters/

> Bing - https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster

Always remember "Content is King," keep building to make a sound foundation.

Top Game Influencer on Twitch, isn't a person its a website!

One of the top influencer's for games on Twitch isn't a streamer or a personality, its a external website.

Influencer marketing is generally getting the word out about a product or a service to a large group of consumers via "Influencers". On Twitch "Influencers" are generally streamers who are payed or sponsored in some fashion to play a video game or show case a product. Streamers who are not paid but are inspired to play games and/or use products they like on their channels are also "Influencers" in some capacity.

Top Games Twitch 2018 May
One major factor on overall influencing on Twitch for video games is the game directory. If a game is on the top slots of the overall directory, more viewership generally trends into those channels featuring said game.

In comes "Gamepedia", which is owned by Amazon, the parent company of Twitch Inc. Gamepedia is promoting Twitch streams across their vast network of crowd sourcing wiki's. Only the top Twitch streams that are of affiliate level or higher get promoted depending on the game. So lets say a Twitch affiliate streamer named "Justin" is playing and streaming Diablo. If no other Twitch affiliate or partners are streaming that game, Justin's channel will be promoted on gamepedia's diablo wiki on the bottom of the content pages.

As people search for Diablo related information on search engines, they will most likely see in the top search engine results, gamepedia related pages.  Once they visit a gamepedia content page, they will be counted as a view for the twitch channel being promoted at the bottom.

gamepedia embedding twitch streams
Here is a example of a Twitch stream being promoted on a gamepedia wiki page at the bottom.

If no one is streaming Diablo, then the current top streamer of twitch will be promoted in that spot.

All of these views from gamepedia add up and directly influence the overall placement of games on the directory.

And here is also another really interesting factor, that many don't really know about or consider. Any  streamer who gets promoted on gamepedia wiki's will be able to see the traffic coming in via the dashboard stats from external sites. If the traffic is pretty substantial why would they switch and play other games? Who is going to say no to thousands of free channel views and viewers automatically coming to your channel?

Update: 7/26/2019 --  Gamepedia has stopped promoting twitch streams as a autoplaying embed on their wiki platform.  Gamepedia is also not part of Twitch/Amazon anymore since the start of this year.

Here is the reason why from MisterWoodhouse from Gamepedia:

Free Channel Traffic / Free Views

Get free channel traffic to your Twitch stream by knowing about gamepedia's promotional content section!
free views for twitch streams
So your a small streamer on the Twitch platform? Want a way to get some possible free traffic going to your stream? Well here is one way to get some views going into your channel.

Gamepedia is now one of the biggest traffic generators for Twitch Streams

Please note: It's not going to work for all channels, you need at least 10-15 concurrent viewers + to be able to take advantage of it.

Steps
  1. Research Gamepedia and all the wiki's
  2. Figure out what wiki is popular and is promo'ing streams.
    • To know if gamepedia is promoting streams
      • Go to a game wiki
      • Then click on to a content page or a random page
      • Make sure you have adblock off, and then check the bottom for a 'Promotional Content' section, if you see that, a stream should be showing as a embed.
  3. Start playing/streaming that game and if your channel's in the top spot, Gamepedia will feature your stream on all its wiki content pages for that game.
    • During researching phase, check on Twitch to see if many people are streaming the game, less streamers the greater your chance at getting the top spot.
  4. When your done streaming, put the past achieve in rerun and let it run until the next time your broadcasting.
Update 8/20/2018 Gamepedia now has created a rule out of no where saying any stream that is 24/7 / ReRuns which gets promoted at Gamepedia Wiki's will be banned.
Here is what traffic looks like using my channel's data during the streaming of battletech.

Even though my stream wasn't in the top spot for a majority of the time, it still managed to generate around 5,000 channel views. Every little bit of promotion, views and traffic going to your channel helps out.

If you have any comments or questions fill free to post them up in the comment section below!

**Update on this article**, Gamepedia as of around 7/22/2019 has stopped embedding Twitch Streams on their Wiki Network. They are also not part of Twitch anymore, they were sold off to Fandom / Wikia at the beginning of this year.

[23:04:14] <~%Daopa> and dont like it that i have views
[23:04:15] <generaldort> ready to mingle
[23:04:18] <~%Daopa> and your wondering whats up
[23:04:23] <~%Daopa> so u came to chit chat?
[23:04:27] <Phelin3> im with zakuul hes my shooger daddy

[23:04:42] <~%Daopa> Im a embedder

[23:05:10] <ZakuuI> iirc google banned auto-play.
[23:05:13] <~%Daopa> thats what i do
[23:05:28] <~%Daopa> Now if you dont believe it
[23:05:34] <~%Daopa> i have nothing more to say.. it is what it is
[23:05:48] <Phelin3> so technically these ppl arent watching you
[23:06:00] <~%Daopa> no
[23:06:04] <~%Daopa> thats not the case at all
[23:06:14] <~%Daopa> they are prob watching and reading .. or seeing on twitter
[23:06:15] <Poster_Nut_Bag> One downside of having a massive amount of embed viewership is being accused of viewbotting. Many people will mistakenly assume you are viewer botting because of the imbalanced of the chat to view number ratio. Lucky for you these type of people are very simple to ignore.
[23:06:20] <~%Daopa> I embed on twitter too
[23:06:42] <~%Daopa> there is a guide on how to do that too on the twitch blog i made
[23:06:45] <~%Daopa> ushould use it
[23:06:47] <~%Daopa> if ur a streamer
[23:06:53] <~%Daopa> very handle and good
[23:07:28] <ZakuuI> "very useful" Well it also proves you're a piece of shit that would stoop to such low levels instead of working hard and building a community. Really makes me think.
[23:07:44] <ROY4LPAIN> Who no premium consumables
[23:07:47] <generaldort> dortROASTED
[23:08:55] <Phelin3> so there are always exactly 250 people on your "contest website"?
[23:09:04] <Phelin3> at all times?
[23:09:08] <Phelin3> no more no less?
[23:09:25] <generaldort> thats the best streamer retainability ive ever seen
[23:09:49] <~%Daopa> u are free to run ur stream how u see fit
[23:09:58] <~%Daopa> this is not to your liking just leave guys
[23:10:00] <generaldort> yo 4 emotes
[23:10:02] <~%Daopa> its a waste of time here
[23:10:05] <ZakuuI> Am I free to hijack websites and put hidden streams in the background too?
[23:10:09] <generaldort> whats that like 10 subs?
[23:10:27] <Phelin3> it may not be viewbotting but your still a fucking scumbag
[23:10:38] <~%Daopa> Hey
[23:10:47] <~%Daopa> theres nothing wrong what embeding

with* typo, I made alot of typo's I was kinda busy playing the game.

[23:10:54] <~%Daopa> Every streamer has embeds somewhere
[23:10:56] <~%Daopa> ruunning
[23:11:00] <generaldort> nope
[23:11:01] <~%Daopa> lets not be stupid now
[23:11:03] <~%Daopa> yes
[23:11:09] <ROY4LPAIN> real talk, why don't you have premium consumables
[23:11:09] <~%Daopa> everyone does over time
[23:11:10] <bfk_fer1yfe> Not actual streamers
[23:11:11] <generaldort> and i still get 270 viewers lol

This guy reeks of competition mentality, needs to compare, make fun of others.

[23:11:16] <~%Daopa> people get embedded all over
[23:11:20] <Poster_Nut_Bag> @Phelin3 @ZakuuI wtf is wrong with you people
[23:11:25] <bfk_fer1yfe> Why is there no chat?
[23:11:27] <generaldort> GOOD people get embedded all over
[23:11:37] <generaldort> not people who dont talk...AT ALL
[23:11:51] <bfk_fer1yfe> nearly 300 people with no chat?
[23:11:56] <generaldort> ^
[23:12:04] <ROY4LPAIN> Real talk, why no premium consumables?
[23:12:38] <~%Daopa> This is not a gimmick stream
[23:12:43] <~%Daopa> nor a personality stream
[23:12:48] <~%Daopa> its chill and mininal
[23:12:53] <bfk_fer1yfe> It sure is not a WOWS stream
[23:12:57] <~%Daopa> i run my thing different from what u see on twitch
[23:12:58] <ROY4LPAIN> BUT NO PREMIUM CONSUMABLES
[23:13:00] <Poster_Nut_Bag> its a titty stream obviously
[23:13:01] <~%Daopa> again
[23:13:05] <bfk_fer1yfe> the standard of play is junk
[23:13:08] <~%Daopa> IF this is not your likeing move along
[23:13:16] <~%Daopa> no one is holding ur hand here to watch
[23:13:22] <bfk_fer1yfe> The reports will begin to flow

The re-occuring we are going to report you threat.

[23:13:24] <ROY4LPAIN> My question
[23:13:24] <ZakuuI> Do you know who @generaldort is? He's one of the most ACTIVE World of Warships streamer in the community. He's been streaming for years, creating a community with HARD WORK and yet somehow he is nowhere close to your view count. You - a nobody that no one knows who is. Please, can you fucking go 200MPH on the highway for a while and make a sharp right?

Here is a confirmation they at least know each other, prob in the same circle of friends.

They want to say I dont work hard? Kappa

I have been a partner streamer since Justin tv, I was most likely one of the original pack of streamers to get into the partnership way way back then.  I have been streaming almost every single day, 8 hours+ for many years. What works for my channel is vast different from what you normally see on Twitch. I'm not a personality streamer, I do not engage in gimmicks or overlays, giveaways etc. I aim to be as minimalist as possible and interaction mainly via chat.  Its a super chill stream with supplemental support from my gaming related blogs that advertise my channel on. This also creates many synergies back to guides and blogs.

Over the years people would ask me, How do you do X or how do you do Y.

Instead of sending people to other websites that offer guides on how to do X or Y, I built up many blogs that answer these questions. I enjoy making game related fansites and thru out my many years of content creating this all adds up. All of this is hard work, done over many years to which these other people have no clue on...

[23:13:32] <ROY4LPAIN> no consumables?!!?@@@1!~!
[23:13:37] <ROY4LPAIN> oops
[23:13:39] <bfk_fer1yfe> 50 plus people will be reporting you daily
[23:13:39] <ROY4LPAIN> I mean
[23:13:47] <generaldort> dortGOAT
[23:13:50] <ROY4LPAIN> NO CONSUMABLES?!?!!?
[23:13:57] <generaldort> dortROASTED
[23:14:00] <~%Daopa> Hey have run reporting or whatever u wanna do
[23:14:04] <Phelin3> have fun with your scam stream im out
[23:14:09] <~%Daopa> this is not lookin good on this partner streamer
[23:14:17] <~%Daopa> to come to another channel and do this
[23:14:17] <ROY4LPAIN> You haven't answered my question
[23:14:20] <generaldort> no its not, you should be ashamed
[23:14:25] <bfk_fer1yfe> scammers
[23:14:26] <ROY4LPAIN> Why don't you run premium consumables
[23:14:31] <ZakuuI> it's not looking good for the viewbotter
[23:14:44] <ROY4LPAIN> extra charge of smoke, spood beest
[23:14:45] <bfk_fer1yfe> enjoy the 50 reports daily
[23:14:57] <ROY4LPAIN> You could have 3 smoke
[23:15:06] <ROY4LPAIN> instead of a two smoka
[23:15:11] <bfk_fer1yfe> OR, stream with ACTUAL vieweers
[23:15:19] <bfk_fer1yfe> and we will leave you alone
[23:15:21] <generaldort> ^
[23:15:41] <bfk_fer1yfe> You're taking away viewers from actual WOWS players
[23:15:45] <~%Daopa> this is the end of my session dont worry
[23:15:52] <~%Daopa> last game :P
[23:15:52] <generaldort> no its not
[23:15:55] <generaldort> we arent done with you
[23:15:58] <ZakuuI> gonna go back in the closet where mommy told you to?
[23:16:05] <ZakuuI> get off her computer
[23:16:05] <bfk_fer1yfe> Keep scamming and we will be back everyday
[23:16:24] <bfk_fer1yfe> Stream like everyone else and we will leave you alone
[23:17:10] <generaldort> yeaaa this is gonna get out to the whole community
[23:17:17] <generaldort> sorry @Daopa ur done

hmmm?

[23:18:31] <Femennenly> Daopa, I’m a massive fan but first time chatter. I felt confident enough to say something now that there are other people chatting

Here comes Partner Twitch streamer #2, a "massive fan"

[23:18:41] <bfk_fer1yfe> oh
[23:18:42] <Femennenly> I was curious on something tho
[23:18:43] <bfk_fer1yfe> hai
[23:18:43] <ROY4LPAIN> :D
[23:18:49] <bfk_fer1yfe> femeWave
[23:18:57] <Femennenly> May I ask a question please :)?
[23:19:10] <bfk_fer1yfe> femePoint
[23:19:51] <Femennenly> Why twitch? You say you’re not one for interaction and it’s just about game play

Why Twitch? Twitch is the #1 live streaming platform for gamers.  They seem to want to push the narrative that I do not interact, which is not the case, I interact with everyone via chat.  I do at rare times mic up and chit chat also but I try to stick with text chat (some reasons why, for non english speaking viewers they can translate what I say from text chat and I have some viewers who I know are deaf. I do not have the ability to captioning and transcription in a live stream format.)

[23:19:59] <Femennenly> Why not use YouTube?
[23:20:40] <Femennenly> The add revenue from having all those videos embedded everywhere would be much more than this
[23:20:53] <generaldort> dont bother he interacts about as much as @bfk_fer1yfe 's dad. Dude went out for cigarettes 30 years ago and hasnt been back
[23:21:05] <Femennenly> Considering that no one is subbing to you
[23:21:21] <Femennenly> No one is chatting with you
[23:21:29] <~%Daopa> I offered disclosure
[23:21:37] <ROY4LPAIN> Thats not funny, my dad left to get milk for breakfast and I haven't seen him in 7 years :(
[23:21:39] <Femennenly> What’s the point of being live, if you’re not planning on interactig
[23:21:40] <~%Daopa> U guys know whats up
[23:21:46] <Femennenly> You know what’s fun Daopa
[23:21:48] <~%Daopa> its fine u dont like it
[23:21:53] <Femennenly> Not sure if you use the Partner discord
[23:21:55] <~%Daopa> but its not against any reals

rules* typo here

[23:22:03] <ROY4LPAIN> whats reals
[23:22:03] <Femennenly> But we actually were chatting about this the other day in there
[23:22:09] <~%Daopa> I promo my channel different the what u do
[23:22:12] <Femennenly> And it’s actually against ToS

This is interesting, they want to say embedding a stream on a website is against the ToS. If this was the case, Twitch wouldn't offer the embedding option which you can find under all streamers in the share button section.

[23:22:15] <ZakuuI> I offer the truth, you view bot and you know it. Have fun getting cucked.
[23:22:17] <generaldort> ^
[23:22:17] <~%Daopa> no its not at all
[23:22:22] <~%Daopa> everyone gets embeds
[23:22:29] <Femennenly> Then why did twitch staff confirm it :)

I will assume this person is making this up; if not this Twitch Staff is not getting the correct facts of the matter and this streamer is creating a false narrative against my channel.

Update: After checking Twitch Partner Discord, I found the following which furthers my point this person is possibly making things up and attempting to use scare / intimidation tactic.

[23:22:30] <~%Daopa> u can promo your stream on your website
[23:22:37] <Femennenly> Iyes
[23:22:40] <~%Daopa> whatever
[23:22:40] <Femennenly> Your website
[23:22:48] <ZakuuI> link to this website please?
[23:22:49] <Femennenly> That no one has posted on for ages
[23:22:53] <Femennenly> Or commented on
[23:23:00] <Femennenly> I’m just curious more than anything

So now they want to know more details of my website(s) because they are curious. Kappa

[23:23:08] <~%Daopa> Again
[23:23:11] <Femennenly> What’s the point of it? You’re not building a following

This person wants to believe this as fact when they don't have any idea. Yes I have a following and its not in "World Of Warships" sphere of things.

[23:23:14] <~%Daopa> you are free to do whatever u like
[23:23:16] <~%Daopa> on your channel
[23:23:22] <~%Daopa> whatever gimmicks
[23:23:23] <ZakuuI> Also what's this 14.7m views website? I am curious, for something so popular it must be great!
[23:23:24] <~%Daopa> and engagement
[23:23:27] <Femennenly> Your social media accs have very little activity
[23:23:28] <Phelin3> is that all you can say?
[23:23:37] <Femennenly> I agree
[23:23:40] <~%Daopa> how ever u like to promo on social media or whatever
[23:23:40] <Femennenly> You do you
[23:23:46] <~%Daopa> im different so u wanna target me
[23:23:47] <Femennenly> But I’m curious on your motivation
[23:23:52] <Femennenly> That’s all
[23:24:00] <~%Daopa> If i wanna watch a stream
[23:24:00] <Femennenly> I stream for community

When people say they are streaming for community and then enter other people channels who are streaming the game they primary on and do what they do.. this is not community building, its tearing down others or trying to intimidate others.

[23:24:05] <~%Daopa> I dont want gimmocks
[23:24:07] <Femennenly> You’re obviously not doing that
[23:24:09] <~%Daopa> I dont want cams
[23:24:14] <~%Daopa> I dont want mic up alot
[23:24:15] <Femennenly> You don’t need them
[23:24:16] <generaldort> i stream so i dont have to pop my p***y up at the club
[23:24:17] <~%Daopa> I do streaming
[23:24:20] <ZakuuI> are you 10 then?
[23:24:22] <~%Daopa> the way i wanna chant
[23:24:24] <Phelin3> NO ONES ASKING you to cam
[23:24:24] <Femennenly> Again I just want to know why
[23:24:25] <~%Daopa> watch
[23:24:31] <~%Daopa> THis is a chill stream
[23:24:36] <~%Daopa> I do Chat Interaction
[23:24:39] <~%Daopa> its simple
[23:24:45] <Femennenly> Chat interaction...
[23:24:46] <ZakuuI> a 10 year old that found a website to view bot and become like *ahem* PEWDIEPIE? But you're so scared of showing your fucked up face?
[23:24:49] <~%Daopa> I offer guides and do gaming content
[23:24:50] <Femennenly> No one ever chats here
[23:24:57] <~%Daopa> and this is suppilemental to that
[23:24:57] <generaldort> ever
[23:24:58] <Femennenly> We’re only here cause it’s confusing to us

Sure you are ....

[23:25:00] <~%Daopa> and that to this
[23:25:01] <Femennenly> Daopa
[23:25:04] <bfk_fer1yfe> stop zakul
[23:25:07] <bfk_fer1yfe> let him talk
[23:25:07] <Femennenly> I looked at your media
[23:25:08] <ZakuuI> lul
[23:25:11] <Femennenly> Content pages etc
[23:25:15] <Phelin3> no its an illegal stream embedded on some BS site no one ever visits to cover up your viewbots
[23:25:15] <Femennenly> No one watches it

This person has a wizards ball of some sorts or telepathy. And knows where all the content pages are and who watches what...

[23:25:35] <~%Daopa> You have no idea of what website, webpage
[23:25:42] <ZakuuI> link pl0x
[23:25:45] <~%Daopa> what traffic levels are
[23:25:48] <generaldort> no idea?
[23:25:49] <~%Daopa> or anything
[23:25:52] <~%Daopa> you dont know
[23:25:58] <~%Daopa> all you can so is speculate
[23:26:06] <Femennenly> I just want to know what you’re gaining from this :) you’re not building community, you’re not getting subs, yours not making money(besides farmed ad revenue)
[23:26:08] <~%Daopa> I have been up front with u guys
[23:26:18] <Femennenly> You haven’t answered my question
[23:26:20] <Femennenly> :/
[23:26:27] <Femennenly> What are you getting from this
[23:26:33] <Femennenly> Nothing that twitch is know for
[23:26:37] <Femennenly> So why not do YT etc
[23:26:38] <~%Daopa> why can I have a stream and chat with people?
[23:26:47] <Femennenly> That’s what I’m confused about
[23:26:56] <Femennenly> I’ve lurked enough to know no one talks here
[23:27:08] <~%Daopa> My friends come here
[23:27:12] <Femennenly> It’s literally you playing T2 or 10 DDs
[23:27:16] <~%Daopa> Other viewers come here
[23:27:24] <Femennenly> Lesigh
[23:27:27] <generaldort> i watched u for onver an hour, nobody said a word
[23:27:27] <~%Daopa> its not crazy but it is what it is
[23:27:28] <Femennenly> You don’t understand
[23:27:39] <Femennenly> 300 viewers no one chats
[23:27:42] <ZakuuI> you have 30k friends that view your stream a day?
[23:27:43] <~%Daopa> Sometimes its like that
[23:27:50] <Femennenly> That’s ad farming if I haven’t seen it before
[23:28:01] <Femennenly> You have nothing to be proud of here
[23:28:06] <Femennenly> The good streamers

Very clear this person doesn't like the content of the stream and my stream style.

[23:28:10] <Femennenly> You are no close to them
[23:28:16] <Femennenly> Despite your inflated numbeers
[23:28:23] <~%Daopa> Byy all means
[23:28:28] <~%Daopa> support the streamers you like
[23:28:33] <~%Daopa> and ignore the ones u dont like
[23:28:33] <Femennenly> You can deny it all you want
[23:28:37] <generaldort> Daopa i think maybe you shouldnt stream this game anymore. Now that we are here the whole community will know

Here you see the crux of the issue, these people feel threatened in some way that I'm taking something from them (and or others) due to having more viewers. If your a streamer and your channel's fate rests upon placement in the Twitch directory, thats pretty grim.

[23:28:56] <~%Daopa> Doing threats as a partner against another partner is a big no no
[23:28:57] <Femennenly> But you’re the one who will lay there at night and be like I’ve wasted my time building a false community

Now I feel bad for this person, this statement here is a possible sign of anxiety / depression.

[23:29:05] <Femennenly> I haven’t threatened anything
[23:29:12] <generaldort> neither have i
[23:29:27] <Femennenly> All I have told you is it’s against ToS

Embedding a Twitch stream to a website is not against ToS. Viewbotting / Fake viewers is against ToS.

[23:29:29] <Femennenly> Which it is
[23:29:34] <generaldort> ur going to be reported to twitch by alot of people. call it a threat all you want but its a fact at this point.
[23:29:45] <~%Daopa> Do whatever you like
[23:29:45] <Femennenly> And we are within our rights to report you for doing so
[23:29:56] <bfk_fer1yfe> YOu will be reported by over 50 people EVERYDAY you stream this game
[23:29:56] <~%Daopa> Next time when you report, just press the report button

General Tip, if you are going to report a channel for some sort of violation that you believe is occurring, just report it - offer as much detail as you can that supports your case. Do not go into the chats channel and harass / make implied threats.

[23:30:00] <Femennenly> Will do :)
[23:30:05] <~%Daopa> and dont come in with your people and harass the guy
[23:30:09] <generaldort> good luck Daopa
[23:30:18] <ZakuuI> hope you get bannedferlyfe
[23:30:25] <~%Daopa> Have a nice day, support the streamers you enjoy
[23:30:25] <generaldort> dont viewbot and you wont have a preoblem
[23:30:35] <~%Daopa> you guys seem well
[23:30:46] <~%Daopa> I dont viewbot
[23:30:56] <~%Daopa> Im done for the night anyways :)
[23:31:01] <ROY4LPAIN> gud
[23:31:02] <generaldort> bye felicia
[23:31:03] <~%Daopa> Take it ez people
[23:31:10] <generaldort> ur only viewers are out
[23:31:22] <ZakuuI> please don't stop breathing in your sleep
[23:31:26] <ZakuuI> that'd be a real shame

Created a highlight that captures the chat for documentation purposes.

In ending let me say, if you are a Twitch Partner, Twitch Affiliate never do what these people have done in my channel. Do not brigade your circle of friends into another persons channel in attempts to intimiate / harass them.
